Return to Edisto Island is the story of a young woman’s difficult decision to run from threat and danger

Tuesday, May 11th, 2021

Claire
at Edisto

The
Edisto Trilogy Book 1

by
Lin Stepp

Genre:
Christian Contemporary Romance

Standing
in grief and shock at the grave of her young husband, Claire Avery
wonders what she and her young daughters will do now. They live in
the church parsonage they need to vacate. She hasn’t worked since her
marriage twelve years ago. Old issues and complications hinder
relationships with her family. Struggling for answers, Claire accepts
her brother-in-law’s offer to stay at his beach house at Edisto to
give her a season to heal and think. But even the peace and beauty of
the coastal island bring new problems along with unexpected joys as
Claire seeks to find her way.

Parker
Avery always promised his brother Charles he would look after Claire
if anything happened to him. Charles stood by him three years ago
when his wife Ann died and Parker is determined now to be a help to
Claire and the girls. As time passes, instead of feeling like a hero,
he feels like a heel instead as he realizes he’s developing feelings
for his own brother’s widow. To make things worse, he watches with
pain and jealousy as Miles Lawrence waltzes into Claire’s life. What
can he expect though? It hardly seems right that Claire, even after a
season of mourning, would ever fall in love with her own
brother-in-law.

Return
to Edisto

The
Edisto Trilogy Book 2

Return
to Edisto Island in the rich, Lowcountry story of a young woman’s
difficult decision to run from threat and danger, changing the course
of her well-ordered life and, in turn, the life of the young man who
loved and lost her.

It
was a long trip back to Edisto Island, South Carolina, and the beach
house that shaped so much of Mary Helen Avery’s early life. Now her
mind flashed between anger and hurt over the difficult situation
she’d left behind at the job she loved.  Was she doing the
right thing to leave? Should she have stayed to fight? She hoped at
the quiet, beloved island she knew so well, she’d find the answers
she needed and peace from all this turmoil.

J.T.’s
heart took a familiar lurch when he saw the car with New Jersey
plates parked at the Avery’s beach house. Even after ten years, the
memory of Mary Helen Avery still tormented him.  Finding her on
the porch weeping lit old fires he thought long dead. Was he a fool
to hope for something more between them with all their problems of
the past? Probably so, but if she stayed long enough, he’d find one
more chance to try.

While settling into new, promising lives, they are attacked and stalked by planet Dalya’s humanoid inhabitants

Ashes
and Blood
Dalya
Book 1

by
Katie Zaber

Genre:
Fantasy

I’ll
start at the beginning. Long ago, before roads, before we built
structures, before medicine was discovered, before the government was
created, before man gained any knowledge, there were The Five.
Independent from each other, The Five had a mutual respect for one
another. They knew their roles in the world and their duty. They were
gods…”

An
adventure begins when an otherworldly tree captures the attention of
Megan and her friends. The environment morphs around them,
transferring them to an exotic planet. Stuck in a rural town still
maimed by the plague, a chance encounter with a familiar face gives
Megan and her friends some security during their adjustment
period.

While
settling into new, promising lives, they are attacked and stalked by
planet Dalya’s humanoid inhabitants, who focus on Megan. One dark
night, after an epic, magical attack, the Fae King’s knight is sent
to fetch Megan. When she wakes up a prisoner, she learns that there
is much more to this strange world, and it is oddly more like her own
than she ever would have expected.

and a smitten prince whose advances turn cold, she faces another

to guess at.
Back
on land, Lilly reveals more of her secrets, her story, and her goals.

what appears at first to be a serial murder spree might just be the beginning of the end of the human race

Wednesday, September 30th, 2020
Series
Intro:
DragonMan is not
your typical Superman/Batman comic-style adventure.
It is about the
adventures of Luke Starr, a superhero, yes, but he is so much more
than that.
These are all
stand-alone adventures, He and his sisters solve crimes and
mysteries. They run Starr investigations detective agency.
The audience for these books range from 7-16 years old, but can
still be enjoyed by people of all ages.
The amazing story of
DragonMan was born at the dawn of the 21st Century, when the world,
about to change forever, watched in disbelief as four passenger
airliners crashed, not only into buildings and a field in Shanksville
Pennsylvania but into the American certainty that the horrors of the
outside world could not touch them at home.
It was into this world
that a new kind of superhero emerged, one for whom the lines between
good and evil are blurred. Is he friend? Or is he foe? No one knows
for sure. What they do know, however, is that as a friend there is no
one better.
The
Adventures of Luke Starr
DragonMan
Series Book 1
by
Ted Lazaris
Genre:
Middle-Grade Fantasy

Recommended
for pre-teens all the way up to an adult, who want to forget about
work tomorrow and lose themselves in a great story.

The
Poseidon Encounter
DragonMan
Series Book 2

 In
Ted Lazaris’s first fantasy adventure novel, Dragonman, the
Adventures of Luke Starr, the reader was introduced to the likable
Luke and his seemingly normal way of life growing up in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. Luke was portrayed as a quiet, average kid plagued by all
the inherent problems of the typical American teen: dealing with a
crush on a girl he’s too shy to approach, pesky sisters constantly
poking their noses into his business, bullies at school and exams to
study for. But Luke, readers soon discovered, was burdened by a far
greater weight than any of his peers, as he struggled to come to
terms with his birthright as The Chosen One, savior of the distant
world of Spellville. Not only that but, like hapless Peter Parker
forced to juggle his complex life as Spider-Man while pursuing his
love interest and his not-always-easy career, Luke had to learn to
harness the enormous powers of Dragonman, his super alter-ego, a
persona that regrettably did not come with an instruction manual.

In
this second, action comic-like installment, Dragonman: The Poseidon
Encounter, Luke seems to have come to terms with his legacy and
appears well in control of his superpowers–which he will be called
upon to use this time around to save the world from an evil demon who
seeks to claim the souls of every human being on earth.
The
mood of impending danger is set from the very first page when author
Ted Lazaris takes off his gloves to delivering a knock-out of an
opening scene: Five-year-old Bobby Blakely, running downstairs on the
morning of his birthday, finds not the hoped-for brand new bicycle as
a gift, but rather an enormous blue whale that has somehow “washed
up” in the small lake on his parent’s isolated farm. While many
consider the whale’s appearance a hoax, others believe it to be a
sign of impending Biblical doom. And it is enough to rouse Luke’s
suspicions that worse is about to happen–which it does.

In
a pace that never flags, Poseidon Encounter unfolds in a complex
thread of differing tales, from an old-fashioned detective murder
mystery to a science fiction fantasy, all neatly stitched together by
an intriguing cast of characters, both good and evil and
not-exactly-as-they-seem. An imaginative writer, Lazaris blends
magic, mysticism, religion, and the fast-paced action of the comic
book world into a book that fans of the first Dragonman tale will
find hard to put down.

Face
of the Unknown
DragonMan Book 3

This
superhero fiction is all about the power of love and faith to
overcome the evil that lurks in the darkness, whether we know it or
not. The superhero fantasy asks the questions we’ve all asked at
one point or another, was life really created the way the bible says?
Or could it be that mankind as we know it is the remnant of a past
civilization which once lived on another planet – or even deep
below the surface of our own? This adventure tackles these questions
with a good sense of unbiased investigation, and at the same time,
opens our eyes to the powerful issue of ‘What If?’
One
hopes and prays they will survive the night, retaining dominion over
their own world. While the other will wage war in ways mankind can
scarcely imagine, in a gruesome fight to end all life on Earth. The
bloody heroic war to determine mankind’s fate, battles between man
and beast, journeys to other worlds, the power of the mind over evil
forces, and the triumph of love.

Descendants
of Man
DragonMan
Book 4

 Why
did the Anunnaki come here? Did they create human hybrids? What is
their plan for earth? And for us, the human hybrids? Why did some;
the original humans (Bigfoot) resist?

Will
we survive what is yet to come? — Those who look for the truth,
already know — those that fail to search, are lost — but those with
an open mind will soon come to know…The Descendants Of Man.
Much
of the story information that was obtained to create this story is
believed to be true by many people around the world — Fact or
fiction — You decide.

bodies have been turning up all over the place, and the public is
scared as hell. Eight murders in a span of six months, all committed
in the same brutal manner, and still, nobody has a clue as to who
this malicious killer is and the body count is rising.
Luke
Starr, a private detective working out of his Milwaukee office with
his two sisters, are busy with less sinister cases at the moment. He
doesn’t know it yet but he is the only one who can stop this
relentless psychopathic killer.

When
his girlfriend, Jenny Anderson, a reporter, gets too close to the
truth she finds herself in mortal danger.

She
quickly enlists the help of her boyfriend Luke Starr and Homicide
Detective John Logan to not only catch this psychopathic genius, who
is always one step ahead of everyone else but to keep her alive for
the biggest story of her career.

As
the clues unfold, Luke discovers not everything is-as-it-seems. And
what appears at first to be a serial murder spree might just be the
beginning of the end of the human race. Can Luke discover the truth
before it’s too late? Time is running out.

As,
author of the DragonMan Series I would like to share with you, my
lifelong struggle with dyslexia.

I
have always struggled with the problem. In school, it was always
terribly difficult for me to read what was right in front of me. And
reading, writing, and spelling still to this day remain difficult for
me. One thing I’ve learned despite having this learning disability, I
can accomplish my goals, if I don’t, get overwhelmed by the big
picture… I just take things one step at a time.
DragonMan:
Face Of The Unknown, authored by Ted Lazaris, who created DragonMan
and wrote the series of novels, has accomplished the amazing feat of
debuting at NUMBER #1 on AMAZON KINDLE, ahead of David Baldacci and
James Patterson novels.

Will it take a band of heartless bank robbers and a lecherous step-father to finally bring them together?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2020

Barbara Goss lives in Western New York and to date has written 48 Christian and/or Sweet Romance books, mostly westerns. She enjoys crossword puzzles, penny slots, reading, swimming, and her two cats, but not necessarily in that order. She tries to write exciting stories with a bit of God’s word spread within, without dominating the story.
Barbara began writing in 1988 and her first book, Forbidden Legacy, won first prize for fiction at a Christian Writers Convention in Titusville, Florida in 1989. This won her a book contract with Publishers: Fleming Revell and later Baker Books. She wrote four books for them under contract. She then took a few years off to work full time as a secretary to the county hospital and the local school system.
Barbara’s greatest influence in writing is the 100 books written by Grace Livingston Hill. As a Christian writer, she weaves a bit of godliness into the romance and adventure yet her books are always clean. Barbara is well on her way to catching up to Ms. Livingston.

She is now turning her wonderful e-books into Audiobooks. Look for them on Amazon.

Beauty of love is that you can fall into it with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time.

Dr. Connor Beauregard Van Gates the IV, of Hays City, Kansas, and Elsie Crenshaw of Gobbler’s Knob, West Virginia, use a successful matchmaker to bring them together by using questionnaires to sort out their likes and dislikes. However, a CATastrophe occurs and things get very mixed up.

The couple has so many differences that Connor is caught rolling his eyes often. What has he done?

Will it take a band of heartless bank robbers and a lecherous step-father to finally bring them together?

Snippet:

The moon was bright that night and the sky clear, making it less scary for Elsie. She had to rescue Conner, but she didn’t know how to go about doing it.

She soon saw some movement. Someone had stepped out of the mine. Elsie couldn’t see his face, but she knew it was Conner. Another man stood at the mine entrance, watching Conner, who carried a bucket.

Elsie moved in the direction that Conner had gone as quietly as possible, grateful for the thick brush to hide her. She saw him stop at a well, and luckily, there were enough bushes for her to crawl closer to the well. Conner was pumping water. She knew he couldn’t leave because one of the men was watching him from about twenty feet away.

“Conner,” she whispered loudly.

Conner swung his head in her direction, still pumping water. “Elsie?” His voice came out in a whispered squeak of surprise. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to bring you home.”

Conner didn’t look at her, but he kept pumping water. “Go home and stay safe. I can handle things. I don’t want to have to worry about your safety, too.”

“How many men are in there?” Elsie asked.

“Two and the… um…patient.”

Elsie could see that the bucket was full, and Conner would need to return to the mine. Before he turned back, he whispered, “Go home!”

“Wait!” Elsie whispered back.

Conner purposely stumbled, spilling half of the water. He turned back to the well to pump more. “What?”

She took a gun from her holster and tossed it near his feet. “I have the other one.”

In the moonlight, Elsie saw Conner’s mouth drop open. They noticed his guard lighting a cigarette, so Conner bent to pick up the gun and stuck it in his boot.

It’s 20th-century Czechoslovakia… and murder comes knocking

Sunday, June 14th, 2020

What inspired me to write ‘The Affliction of Praha’?

I have always loved mysteries books, classics from the likes of Agatha Christie are of course an inspiration, and more recently ‘The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle’ is equally excellent. As a UK citizen, I spent two years living in what is now Slovakia. The setting for my book is 1920s Czechoslovakia, and my time in the region certainly inspired me to create something a little bit different to the usual settings and countries we often find the genre written in. I would like to think that the mixture of a mystery story combined with a historical period, set in a location most readers will be unfamiliar with, should provide for a compelling read.

If you like gripping historical mysteries packed with brutal twists and turns, then you won’t want to miss this dramatic and period-perfect depiction of the early 20th-century in the heart of Europe.

The Blurb:

It’s 20th-century Czechoslovakia… and murder comes knocking.

The Teralov family are loved and respected by everyone in Prague, adored for bringing prosperity and hope to its downtrodden people… so nobody expected to find Peter Teralov inexplicably murdered in the streets.

To quell the uproar, expert Soviet detective Edgar Rollenvart soon finds himself tasked with hunting down the one responsible and bringing the killer to justice. He’s confident he can unravel the mystery behind Peter’s killing – despite the mysterious absence of evidence.

Teaming up with Peter’s brother, Edgar embarks on a twisting and impossible case that will take them through the streets and cities of early 1920s Czechoslovakia. As the number of suspects mounts and the evidence seems to go nowhere, Edgar soon realizes that the mystery behind this case runs far deeper than meets the eye…

If you like gripping historical mysteries packed with brutal twists and turns, then you won’t want to miss this dramatic and period-perfect depiction of the early 20th-century in the heart of Europe.

Tips on how and why to use dialogues

Thursday, July 20th, 2017

Readers normally want a fast paced book to get away from their mundane and pathetic life. They want to travel with your characters, not to be told what the character is doing. They want to be there with them or be them; to hurt with them, to smell the food and taste it with them, to see the morning sun go up and to feel the afternoon rain fall on their face.

What they usually don’t want is to fall asleep reading. (If they want to fall asleep reading, they can grab a textbook.)

What is one of your responsibilities as an author?

To keep the story moving at a good pace or you will lose your readers…forever, a huge no, no in our business.

So what keeps a story moving?

Dialogues is one excellent way. Most anything you need to say can be said in a dialog.

BROKEN HEARTS EXCERPT- WHEN IT HURTS TO BREATHE

Ever since Piper had her melt down when he held her, Drew had been terrified of being left alone with her. He didn’t know what to do if he had another episode. And since Amanda handled the first one so well, he nodded in agreement and let her take the reins from his hands. Ever since his accident it seemed to him that his friends were having an easier and better experience when it came to handling some aspects of his life.

“Maya, why don’t you go with Amanda,” Leo asked.

“Of course dear.”

His mother’s expression mirrored his won. Drew knew something was up and the only reason Leo basically asked his mother to leave them alone was because what he had to tell him would probably upset her.

“Do I want to know?” Drew asked once the women were out of earshot.

“No, I don’t even want to know. But-,” Leo cleared his throat and pulled down his v-neck t-shirt collar. “Someone told the board that you are getting a divorce.”

“What!”

“That same person happened to tell page six the same story.”

Drew paced the width of his narrow driveway. “I can’t believe this. If Piper even thinks that I am not here to support her… she will be crushed. You have to kill the story.”

“I am proud that Piper was the first person that came to mind, as your friend. But as your lawyer, I have to tell you that this rumor has the board thinking about taking away your inheritance.”

“Who even started the rumor? No one but us and a few hospital staff know. You did make them sign a confidentiality agreement.”

“Of course.”

“Then who?”

“Drew!” A panicked Amanda ran towards them.

“What is it?” Every muscle in Drew’s body tensed as he waited for Amanda to tell him the latest thing that had gone terribly wrong in his life.

“Piper is missing. We can’t find her.”

“What do you mean missing,” Drew talked and jogged at the same time. “This is a closed estate, the only way in and out is through the front gate. She must be here somewhere.”

“We have to find her, you heard what Lacey said.”

Drew’s jog turned into a run, his heart beating loudly in his ears and his lips moved as he said a prayer. He didn’t know if it was God’s intervention or what. As everyone ran into the garden, Drew took a detour towards the pool house. Even though his heart stopped at the sight before him, his legs didn’t. He saw Piper’s hair float at the surface of the pool as the rest of her was submerged and still. Drew ran into the water, her wrapped his arms around her and forced her head out.

Drew pushed her hair out of her eyes, his hands cupping her face. “Baby, are you okay? What were you doing?” He held her tightly and felt her slender arms lock behind his head. Piper cried and coughed and Drew didn’t think he had ever heard a more beautiful sound.
